Terms of use
Terms for using Speedometera, the free GPS speedometer: readings are estimates, never use it while driving, acceptable use, ads, liability and contact.
Last updated: 25 October 2026
In short: Speedometera is a free, browser-based GPS speedometer and set of speed tools. Readings come from your device's GPS and are estimates, so never rely on them for navigation, legal or safety decisions. Never look at or touch the site while you are driving or riding. Use the site lawfully, don't abuse it, and we provide it "as is" with no warranty.
These Terms of Use (the "terms") govern your use of speedometera.com and its pages, tools and newsletter (together, the "site" or the "service"). The site is run by Izhar Ahmad Danish, an independent publisher ("we", "us"). Please read them together with our privacy policy and disclaimer.
1. Acceptance of these terms
By opening or using any page of the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the site. If you use the site on behalf of an organization, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for it.
You must be old enough to form a binding agreement where you live, or have a parent or guardian's permission. The site is a general-audience tool and is not directed at children (see section 10).
2. What the service is
The site provides free tools that run in your web browser, including:
- a GPS speedometer with presets for cars, trains, bikes, running, walking, flights, buses and boats, plus trip distance, a HUD mirror mode, full screen, a speed alert, a speed graph and GPX trip export;
- calculators such as the speed converter, tire size calculator and speedometer calibration calculator, listed on our tools hub;
- guides and articles explaining how the tools work, and an optional email newsletter.
The service is free and you don't need an account. We may add, change, suspend or remove any tool, feature or page at any time, with or without notice, and we are not obliged to keep any feature available.
3. Speed readings are estimates (no warranty)
Speed, distance, altitude, heading and coordinates on the site are calculated from data your device's location service reports to the browser. That data depends on things outside our control: the GPS chip and antenna, satellite visibility, buildings, tunnels, tree cover, weather, battery saving, the browser and the operating system. Our methodology explains how we filter and smooth readings, but even a good fix can be off by several metres and a reading can lag, jump or drop out.
Calculators give results from the numbers you enter and standard formulas. A wrong input, an unusual tire, or rounding can make a result differ from the real world.
For these reasons the site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available". To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, reliability, merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, secure or free of harmful components. Some places do not allow certain warranty exclusions, so some of this may not apply to you; in that case the exclusion applies to the maximum extent permitted.
4. Not for navigation, legal or safety-critical use
The site is an informational and hobby tool. It is not a certified measuring instrument, navigation device, vehicle speedometer replacement, aviation or marine instrument, or emergency service. Do not use it:
- to decide how fast to drive, ride, sail or fly, or to replace your vehicle's own speedometer and instruments;
- for navigation, route finding, collision avoidance or any situation where a wrong or missing reading could cause injury, death or damage;
- as evidence in a traffic stop, court, insurance claim or dispute, or to challenge a speeding ticket;
- for commercial calibration, odometer certification, fleet compliance, fare or billing calculations, or sports records that require certified timing.
Information about speed cameras, speed limits or regulations (where shown) may be incomplete or out of date. Always follow posted signs, your vehicle's instruments and the instructions of officials and crew.
5. Never use the site while driving
Distracted driving kills. If you are driving or riding, do not look at, tap or set up the site while moving. Acceptable ways to use it in a vehicle are:
- as a passenger, holding the phone yourself;
- or with the phone fixed in a mount, set up before you start moving, in a position allowed by local law, with no handling while the vehicle is in motion. The HUD mode is only for a mounted phone, and you remain responsible for keeping your eyes on the road.
Many US states, and many other countries, ban or restrict handheld phone use while driving. You alone are responsible for knowing and following the traffic and phone-use laws where you are. We are not responsible for any fine, penalty, crash, injury or loss linked to using a device while driving or riding.
6. Acceptable use
You may use the site for personal, lawful purposes. You agree not to:
- break any law, or use the site to harm, track or harass another person;
- try to disrupt, overload, probe or gain unauthorized access to the site, its servers or its API, or bypass any security or rate limit;
- scrape, crawl or copy the site at a rate that degrades service, or use automated means to submit the newsletter form;
- submit someone else's email address to the newsletter without their permission, or submit false or malicious data;
- click ads you are not genuinely interested in, encourage others to do so, or generate fake traffic or ad impressions in any way;
- frame the site, remove our notices, or present our content, tools or code as your own;
- upload or inject malware or any code designed to damage or interfere with the site or its visitors.
We may block access, remove subscriptions or take other reasonable steps if we believe these terms are being broken.
7. Newsletter
If you subscribe, you confirm the address is yours. We store it to send occasional emails about the site and its tools, as described in our privacy policy. Sign-up is single opt-in (your address is added when you submit the form). Every newsletter email includes a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can also unsubscribe at any time by emailing us. We may stop the newsletter at any time.
8. Intellectual property
The text, tables, illustrations, infographics, design and code of the site belong to Speedometera or its licensors, unless stated otherwise, and are protected by copyright and other laws. Third-party images, fonts and libraries are used under their own licenses, and credits are given where required.
You may:
- link to any page of the site;
- quote short extracts for commentary, teaching or reviews, with a credit and a link to the source page;
- save and share your own GPX exports, screenshots and results (remember a GPX file contains your route and times).
You may not republish whole pages, translate or repackage the tools or content as your own product, or use our name or logo in a way that suggests we endorse you, without written permission. To request permission, or to report content you believe infringes your rights, email us (see section 16) with the page address and details of your claim; we will review it promptly.
9. Third-party links, ads and services
The site is free because it is, or will be, supported by advertising served by Google AdSense and its partners. Ads are chosen by the ad provider, not by us, and appearing on the site is not an endorsement. We never place ads inside the speedometer card. Any purchase or dealing with an advertiser is between you and that advertiser.
The site may also use Google Analytics to count visits, and links to other websites, sources and app stores. We do not control third-party sites or services and are not responsible for their content, accuracy, availability or privacy practices; their own terms and policies apply. How ad and analytics cookies work, and how to opt out of personalized ads, is explained in our privacy policy.
The site is hosted on Cloudflare's network, and your browser's location service (for example from Google, Apple or your device maker) supplies the position data the speedometer uses.
10. Privacy and children
Your location is processed inside your browser to calculate speed and is not sent to our servers. GPX files you save are generated on your device and are not uploaded. The privacy policy explains what limited data we do handle (such as a newsletter email address, and data collected by ad and analytics providers) and your rights, including for California residents.
The site is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). If you believe a child has given us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, neither Speedometera nor its owner or writers will be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, profits, goodwill or opportunity, or for any fine, penalty, injury, death or property damage, arising out of or related to your use of, or inability to use, the site or any reading or result it gives, whether based on contract, tort (including negligence), strict liability or any other theory, even if we were told such loss was possible.
Because the site is free, our total liability for any claim relating to the site is limited to US $50. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot legally be limited, such as liability for fraud or, where the law requires, for death or personal injury caused by negligence, and nothing here affects consumer rights you have by law that cannot be waived.
12. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to defend, indemnify and hold harmless Speedometera and its owner, owner and writers from any claims, damages, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of these terms, your misuse of the site, or your violation of any law or the rights of another person, including any use of the site while driving or riding.
13. Governing law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the place where the operator of the site is resident, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Nothing in this section removes any mandatory consumer protection that the law of your own country or state gives you, including any right to bring a claim in the courts where you live.
Before starting any formal claim, please email us and give us 30 days to try to resolve the issue informally. Most problems, such as a wrong reading or a newsletter issue, can be fixed quickly that way.
14. General terms
- Entire agreement. These terms, the privacy policy and the disclaimer are the whole agreement between you and us about the site.
- Severability. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect and the affected part is applied as far as the law allows.
- No waiver. If we don't enforce a term right away, that does not mean we give up the right to enforce it later.
- Assignment. We may transfer the site and these terms to a successor; you may not transfer your rights under them.
- Events outside our control. We are not responsible for delays or failures caused by events beyond our reasonable control, such as network, hosting, GPS or browser outages.
- Language. If we publish a translated version of these terms, the English version prevails in case of conflict.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the site, the law or our partners' policies change. The "last updated" date at the top shows the current version. If a change is significant, we will make it clear on this page. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated terms; if you do not agree, stop using the site.
16. Contact
Questions about these terms, permission requests, copyright notices or legal correspondence: email hello@speedometera.com or use the contact page. Messages are read by Izhar Ahmad Danish, and we aim to reply within a few business days.
